Meanings, Signs & Symbols

This was a little confusing at first, but as I read on the ideas and examples made more sense.

"A symbol is different from a metaphor in that a symbol is used more consistently and widely than a metaphor. Also, a metaphor is a statement (even if implied), whereas a symbol need not be a statement. The common element in symbols and metaphors is that the literal, conventional meaning is exceeded or negated by a nonliteral meaning.
Symbols may have very narrow or quite wide ranges of meaning. The range may be limited to an individual, or perhaps to a small group. People other than the individual or group will not understand that meaning of the symbol. A symbol's range may be cultural, meaning that it is known by members of cultural groups: ethnic groups, religious groups, national groups, and so on."

I never put two and two together, now realizing that our minds grow using these things to shape how we interact with our world. So now I want to see a study of what signs and been forgotten over time because of advances in our life.

Observations on "Young Goodman Brown"

"My journey, as thou callest it, forth and back again" when I read this line the thought came to my mind that his job or thing of interest keeps him out of his home. As the story unfolds more and more it is as if the main character is a light in this dark passage way, the further he travels the more over baring the darkness is. I also noticed that every character is foreshadowed by their names, for example Friend, Devil, Faith.

Tone and Mood (Earth on turtle's back)

The author's tone, to me, is in the same way as when someone is trying to explain something you already know but have forgotten or overshadowed. We have all heard the moral of this story from previous others. As for the mood I felt attracted to the characters instantly and had a moderate concern for their problems.

Reflections on Week 1

In my opinion there is nothing I can think of, other than a power outage, that could effect my participation in this class. Having all my assignments up on the blog make it very easy to keep track of what it due and what is to come. An amazing learning experience for me was last year in my biology class with one of my all time favorite teacher Mr. Madrigal. Everyone told me that he was mean and a tough teacher but I stayed focused in his class and never gave him a hard time. As the year came to an end I realized that Mr. Madrigal was an easy teach as long as you stayed focused. I also noticed that all the students who told me he was a hard teacher, coincidentally always talk and messed around in his class. I am most excited for improving my writing skills and opening my mind to more poetry. I look forward to learning more vocabulary, mainly so I will have a wide range of words I can use in everyday life.

My First Week

My first week of school was very overwhelming. Even though my week was stressful it did not adumbrate the up coming days. I have a big group of friends and they all complement my high school life. Even though there are other student who are curmudgeon and work in a contumacious manor that portrays a sense of apotheosisI just remain friendly to all and show them the best of me. I pray that any cheaters do not beguile other class mates. One of the most interesting things about Righetti is everyone's style, many of them with a lot of bauble. There are even some with ascetic passion, while there are still other's that confirm their actions with others as if they are didacticOur class burgeoned as the week came to a close.
