Essay

With Ichabod Crane representing Romanticism and Young Goodman Brown backing up Colonialism we see these two characters spit some of the illest rhymes and pronounce the sides they be reppin. Ichabod Crane is one hundred percent Romanticism. Romanticism is a revolt against aristocratic and political norms. This movement was all about validating strong emotion. In the legend of sleepy hollow emotion is everywhere. While in Young Goodman Brown there is an under lying social law, by that I mean everyone followed the rules in the community. No one was to question the laws, this is colonialism. Colonialism is all about restricting freedom and having limitations in writing styles.

In the legend of sleepy hollow elements of Romanticism can be found throughout. Although love is one of the elements, it is not the only determining factor of Romanticism. This story was written with freedom and ideas that would cause the reader to create a connection with his/her emotions. Young Goodman Brown also does this but it is subtle and gives more a moral then then emotion. the legend of sleepy hollow also focused a lot on mental imagery. This novel embodied Romanticism for is it does not follow the normal edicate of colonial literature.

Young Goodman Brown is colonialism. In the novel it show that there is a community in which everyone follows a certain conduct, in a way this hints its colonialism and also is a narrative story throughout. There is imagery, but most of the imagery is an allusion to religious belief. Colonial literature involves colonial life, religious disputes, and are majorly narrative.

  1. Interesting comparison. I look forward to seeing more from you. Good luck with the raps. I find that type of music extremely difficult to grasp and perform so I tip my hat off to anyone who tries.
